Artificial Intelligence in Education Course Welcomes Global Experts

Artificial Intelligence in Education course, a part of the innovative project 浙江大学本校教师主导本科全英文课程建设,” has been hosting a series of in-depth lectures by global experts. Each session is tailored to enhance the students’ understanding of AI’s multifaceted role in education.

On September 27, 2023, Professor Wang Wei from Nanjing Normal University delivered an enlightening online lecture on “Machine Learning for Educational Applications.” Prof. Wang’s comprehensive presentation skillfully demystified machine learning, delving into its core principles and diverse algorithms. She emphasized the innovative integration of machine learning in educational technologies, showcasing practical examples and successes from her laboratory’s projects. This insightful lecture not only highlighted the theoretical underpinnings of machine learning but also its transformative impact on educational methodologies and tools.


On October 13, 2023, Professor Hwang Wu-Yuin from Taiwan Central University delivered an engaging face-to-face lecture titled “Natural Language Processing in Education.” In this session, Prof. Hwang expertly unraveled the complexities of Natural Language Processing (NLP), elucidating its pivotal role in the realm of educational technology. He provided an in-depth exploration of NLP’s practical applications in fostering interactive and personalized learning environments. Furthermore, he candidly discussed the field’s current challenges and limitations, adding depth to the discourse. A highlight of his talk was the insightful exposition on his pioneering research projects, which focus on leveraging AI to revolutionize the language learning process. On October 27, 2023, Professor Ahmed Tlili from Beijing Normal University, presented a captivating lecture on “Robotics in Education.” In this enlightening session, Prof. Tlili guided his audience through the fascinating landscape of educational robotics. He comprehensively mapped out the spectrum of robots being employed in classrooms, ranging from basic instructional tools to sophisticated personal tutoring systems. On November 3, 2023, Professor Fahriye Altinay from the Faculty of Education at Near East University in Northern Cyprus, delivered an insightful lecture addressing the “Ethics and Social Implications of AI in Education.” Throughout her talk, Prof. Altinaycritically examined the ethical dimensions surrounding the integration of Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts. Emphasizing the importance of adopting ethical, inclusive, and equitable practices, she provided a balanced analysis of the potential risks and benefits that AI brings to the educational sector. Prof. Altinay’s recommendations for policymakers and educators aimed at maximizing the positive impact of AI in education were well-considered. Furthermore, she shared valuable insights from her innovative project on AI-based educational systems, particularly the noteworthy AI-based Professor Dux initiative. This initiative shed light on the practical aspects of implementing ethical AI in education. Prof. Altinay's lecture emerged as a significant contribution to the ongoing discourse on the responsible and beneficial integration of AI in educational settings.


On November 10, 2023, Professor Yin Chengjiu, hailing from the Research Institute for Information Technology at Kyushu University, Japan, conducted a thought-provoking lecture on “Computer Vision in Education.” During this session, Prof. Chengjiu offered  an in-depth exploration of the field of computer vision, elucidating its foundational principles and its increasingly significant role in educational environments. Skillfully, he highlighted a range of applications where computer vision is making strides, ranging from automated content analysis to the creation of interactive learning environments. The lecture also delved  into the critical challenges associated with the effective and responsible implementation of these cutting-edge technologies within educational frameworks. Prof. Chengjiu’s expertise provided attendees with a thorough understanding of the current state and future potential of computer vision in education, making it a valuable and informative session for both technology enthusiasts and educational professionals.
